Why you should read Ben Bernanke's Fed
In this extremely timely book, economist Ethan S. Harris provides readers with the basics they need to make intelligent comparisons between legendary U.S. Federal Reserve Board Chairman, Alan Greenspan, and his successor, Ben Bernanke. The two men are very different, but since Bernanke had been in office only about 18 months before publication, half the book is devoted to Greenspan, and the other half to explaining Fed operations and evaluating Bernanke’s short tenure to date. Just to demonstrate the tumult surrounding the economy that Bernanke will influence so deeply, when the author wrote this book, he was a senior economist with Lehman Brothers, which is now defunct. The future looks just as tumultuous, which is one reason why getAbstract highly recommends this informed treatise about the man who now holds what has been called the second most powerful job in the U.S., chairmanship of the Federal Reserve Board.
About the Author
Ethan S. Harris was a managing director and chief U.S. economist for Lehman Brothers. A former research officer at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, he took top honors in The Wall Street Journal’s economic-forecasting rankings in 2007. The Institutional Investor poll regularly cites him as one of the top three fixed-income economists.
