Why you should read Innovation

“Innovation” is a hot buzzword that’s generated a lot of confusion. Early on, Tom Gorman emphasizes that he, for one, does not limit his definition of innovation to revolutionary change, nor to the fundamental transformation of a product. Instead, he defines innovation as any “product, service or process” that springs from a new idea. Innovation, he says, can be a matter of marketing or packaging. He has no new theories, nor even many new tips – but he provides a clear, extremely accessible introduction to the innovation process, demystifying it so you’ll feel almost irresistibly drawn to take part in it. With its definitions of key words and breakdown of complex realities into manageable stages and diagrams, Gorman’s book is a good beginner’s guide; and his integration of multiple models and all divisions of an organization may give even experienced innovators additional tools. getAbstract suggests that you stick this bright little manual into your back pocket, and get to work.

Good evening everyone,

I read a summary recently that may help all of us understand what innovation is, how to use it and that we probably all have at some time.

I read this in the hopes that it would help me help our customers when I am at their properties.

"Innovation is the engine of the world's economy because there is no end to the problems in this world, and there never will be." To quote one of the phrases in this summary.

Innovation is to take an idea or concept and change it to use it in another way.

I believe that we use innovation when we are conducting an evaluation. When we see that there is an item or way of doing something that we think can be changed to be more useful or better for the guest. Just by suggesting that instead of saying I can't help you at the front desk that the clerk or owner say lets see what you want or need and see if we can find a way to give them something that would work as well for them. I know that I have asked for a room with one bed and been told by the clerk that they didn't have what I wanted. If the clerk had said we don't have any rooms available with one bed, but I do have rooms with two beds. It can be as simple as that. I have had clerks make the first comment and only when I explained that two beds were fine did she even think of offering that as an alternative. That is being innovative by seeing another choice.

Innovation can be an idea, a product, a service or a process. By realizing that, we can understand that we are innovative and can focus on solving customer problems.

I belive that we just need to look at things, processes and service in more than one way or the way it has always been done and we can help our customers to find a way to keep their customers (guests) happy and returning to their hotel.

I try to be innovative in all aspects of my live. It tends to keep life intersting and not stagnant.

I enjoyed reading this summary as it reminded me that innovation is a way of life.

Thank you, have a nice Thanksgiving and for those of you who are on vacation have a restful and happy time. Unless of course you are doing exciting things.

Two points Products go through life cycle. Improve customer life.
Even with a slightly outdated product we can still make a difference and that is to improve customer life.
The best brainstorming is interacting with customers let them tell you what their needs are but most of all connect with them this will start developing friendship and loyalties.
