Middle East

Three letters define the Middle East’s influence on global business: oil. With nations such as Kuwait, Iran and Saudi Arabia leading the way, the Middle East economy thrives on the production and exportation of oil. Though some Middle East countries are attempting to diversify their economic infrastructures, petroleum remains the lifeblood of the region. Though any examination of commerce in the Middle East must account for the role of oil, our summaries also include a critical look at the region’s often-volatile political predispositions.

getAbstract shows how political, philosophical and social differences between the West and Middle East significantly affect business relationships. In addition, the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in the last decade or so has further complicated the picture. Plus, a majority of the Arab nations find America’s political and economical alliance with Israel intolerable.

History Lessons

A number of summaries in this category attempt to provide a historical perspective on the region. You’ll learn how Shari’ah law governs Islamic finance. You’ll gain insight into the origins of the conflict between Iran and Israel and the role the United States plays. You’ll also discover why innovation and entrepreneurship drives the Israeli economy and fosters technological and scientific breakthroughs.

getAbstract is a particularly valuable resource when you’re trying to make sense of a difficult concept or issue. You may not find all the answers to your Middle East questions, but you’ll certainly be headed in the right direction.
