情绪是一个人生活的重要组成部分。在工作场合中也是如此,情绪影响你的工作表现。事实上,你的情绪是所有动力、热情和灵感的源泉。然而,情绪有时候也可能沦为怒气和挫败感的源泉。如果对情绪管理不善的话,就会给工作带来麻烦。能够很好地处理自己情绪就说明具有高水平的情商(emotional intelligence EI),情商指“以一种健康和建设性的方式理解和应对自己和他人情绪的能力”。

情绪的产生是一种身体信号,告诉你有重要的事情发生。压抑自己的情绪会导致负面后果,被压抑的情绪则会导致行为失常,包括焦虑、抑郁或滥用药物。不幸的是,社会期望使得很多人从小时候开始就习惯于无视自己的情绪,想一想像“别急”,“男孩大了不能哭”和“面不改色心不跳”之类的短语有多普遍就可见一斑。即使你不承认你的情绪,它仍然能够影响你的行为;想要驾驭情绪,你必须首先承认它的存在。

情商是一种技巧,通过培养这种技巧能使你深入了解并学会驾驭你的情绪。培养情商的五个步骤如下:

  1. “辨别你的情绪体验。”
  2. “理解你的情绪反应。”
  3. “管理你的情绪反应。”

李·加尔登瓦茨(Lee Gardenswartz)博士是一名多元文化培训师,在一家管理咨询公司任执行董事。阿尼塔·罗沃(Anita Rowe)博士是一家情绪智商和文化多样性研究机构的顾问和合伙人,曾与加尔登瓦茨合著《多元化管理》和《全球多元化工作指南》两书。约克·车博斯克(Jorge Cherbosque)博士是美国加利福尼亚州大学洛杉矶分校,安德森管理学院的教授,是“员工咨询中心”的负责人之一。
