当今的企业正处在一个动荡不安的时代,很多行业巨头都身陷困境,一家“标准普尔”级别的公司,其生命周期约为12年。所以,企业必须不断适应时代的变化,而适应的前提就是不断地创新,然而,未来的创新和过去的创新截然不同。可以说,20世纪所出现的很多突破其实是相对比较容易实现的。那时候,某一领域的工作或者某一项有价值的发现经常能够取得巨大的进步,那是因为很多领域和技术路径的发展空间很大。当前的创新则要复杂得多,而且必须要以更快的速度投入市场,这是因为,当前的创新往往综合了多项技术或者涉及多个领域,需要来自“多个学科”的人员组成团队共同完成。

成功的创新都综合了两个元素——“创造力和执行力”——而这两个元素经常会相互冲突,因为“释放科研人员的创造力和将他们的成果转化为真正的产品或收入”这两者很难平衡。要想培养出一种推动创新的组织文化,你首先必须要培养员工的创造力,还要把多元化的团队凝聚在一起,建立一个动态的人才库。领导者在这个过程中面临的挑战包括:最大程度地激发员工的潜力以及管理好那些可能“排斥被管理”的创新人员。一家充满创造力的公司应该鼓励员工表达自己的真情实感,向同事阐述自己的愿景。同时,不要伤害那些敢于说真话的人。针对不同的情况要采取不同的策略,因为创新即意味着与众不同。
