不管他们是否知道,但所有领导者都有自己领导力的故事。个人领导力故事,是指能够代表一个人领导力特色的所有事件、观点或行为的汇总,源自于一个人独特的人生经历。个人领导力故事,也是成就个人事业的关键。

例如,比尔是一名企业领导者,工作能力强,并懂得放权;他信任自己的团队,安排工作从来用人不疑。比尔的一项工作职责是“对企业的财务报表进行审核与跟进”。他本来也认为这是他本人的工作。但因为他放权的工作风格,他将日常财务运营的工作职责交给了公司的财政专家。但在比尔未出席的一次会议上,另一位高管向其中一位专家询问,比尔是否了解企业最新的财务报告。专家的答复表明,比尔并未亲自参与工作的细节。但这不禁让人感觉,比尔对公司财务的具体状况不感兴趣;并很快就成为比尔领导力故事中的负面评价。在得知此事之后,比尔花了近一年的努力,才改变了公司上下对他的印象。在整个事件中,比尔领导力的故事并非由他亲口叙述;而是经由他人之口。对方失真或错误的叙述很可能让他失去领导者的地位、严重妨害他工作的有效性,甚至可能让他工作不保。所幸比尔最终了解到这一情况,在造成严重后果前,及时做出了改变。
