Recommendation

Around the world, nations are waking up to the importance of protecting the environment. And yet, gas leaks, oil explosions and oil spills are still common, even daily, occurrences. Environmental activists Jeff Inglis and John Rumpler discuss the impact of hydraulic fracturing – or fracking – on current and future generations. The report uses shale oil and gas companies operating in Pennsylvania as examples to demonstrate the dangers fracking poses, but it fails to provide viable alternatives or take into account the additional costs of adopting environment-friendly processes. Nonetheless, getAbstract recommends these findings to policy makers, environmentalists, the general public and other stakeholders looking to make businesses responsible for their actions.

Take-Aways

  • The US government and the people of Pennsylvania pay a high price for the drilling activities of shale oil and gas companies that engage in hydraulic fracturing – or fracking.
  • Fracking pollutes the environment, poses risks to America’s natural heritage and has negative implications on people’s health.
  • Drilling companies often violate regulations designed to protect the environment and human welfare without facing any severe legal consequences.
