“Why can I not use my computer in the same way that I interact in the physical world?” This question inspired inventor Pranav Mistry to find a way to connect the digital and physical worlds. Mistry’s interest in the gestures people use to interact with one another and with objects drove his innovation process. He began by removing the rollers from two computer mouses and using them to concoct a string-and-pulley mechanism that he attached to his hand. This “motion-sensing device” could copy physical movement from the real world into the digital world. Using this tool, Mistry created a series of inventions:
