Review

India’s Baba Ramdev overcame many obstacles to become a formidable businessman and a spiritual leader. He felt that teaching spiritual knowledge required also being able to contribute to society. This is the core of his approach to both business and spirituality. He wants to show that holy men don’t leach off society and that yogis can benefit the world. Ramdev’s company, Patanjali Ayurved, co-founded with his friend Acharya Balkrishna, revolutionized the “fast-moving consumer goods” (FMCG) market in India. Author Kaushik Deka, an editor at India Today, comprehensively covers the rise of this fascinating leader and offers related insights into India’s politics and commerce.  At times, however, his reporting seems to rely too much on compiling other studies on Ramdev’s rise. Kaushik Deka, a senior associate editor at India Today, co-authored The Secret Killings of Assam.

An ascetic like Ramdev could build a business empire in very few countries, but India is one of them.

Deka covers these highlights in Baba Ramdev’s life and teaches these lessons:
