Since 2012, the Learning and Development Global Sentiment Survey, compiled by industry analyst Donald H Taylor, has charted the priorities of L&D professionals worldwide. In this year’s edition, AI again cements its place at the top of that agenda. The report also underscores a continued emphasis on data-driven practices and examines the value of consulting with the business, performance support, and demonstrating impact. Taylor’s analysis captures the enthusiasm and the uncertainty surrounding AI, demonstrating the benefits of new tools and the potential threat to L&D’s role within organizations. AI dominated the survey responses in 2025 — for the second year running.

Last year, respondents showed an extraordinary surge of interest in AI, with a record-setting 21.5% of respondents ranking it their top area of interest. A repeat of this feat seemed unlikely, but AI held its place at number one in 2025. Indeed, AI’s dominance increased this year, taking 22.6% of the overall vote. AI ranked top in every key country and across all five workspace categories. Even in countries that showed skepticism or indifference to AI in the 2023 ranking, such as Ireland and Brazil, respondents have joined the excitement and now rank AI first.
