Warning: If you absorb all of business blogger Seth Godin’s advice, you could end up overworked and underappreciated. His antidote to mediocrity and conformity is so effective and convincing that it may have the unintended consequence of making you the go-to person for your whole organization. He stipulates that every person faces a choice: You can choose to live day after day, year after year, languidly going through the motions, doing work devoid of excitement and imagination. Or, you can choose a path that promotes uniqueness and ingenuity by becoming a “linchpin” – an invaluable, indispensable employee, the center of a company’s activities.

About the Author

Seth Godin is the author of Tribes, All Marketers Are Liars, We Are All Weird and What to Do When It’s Your Turn (and It’s Always Your Turn), and more. He is the founder and former CEO of the Squidoo publishing platform and one of the world’s most-read business bloggers.

Godin declares that if you believe in your potential for greatness, ignite the creative spark within you, embrace risk and seek the good in others, you can become an influential linchpin. This absorbing business manual offers advice that extends far beyond the office to embrace all of your life. The author has done his part; your path is up to you. Proceed with caution; even being a linchpin has its hazards.

Godin writes in his signature rambling style, which some readers may find distracting. His prose makes him a living endorsement for excessive self-regard. But that aside, he has worthwhile things to say. getAbstract recommends his lively, charismatic text to students and anyone who is carving out an imaginative and satisfying career.
