How do we collect personal information about You?

We collect personal information in the following context:

You will get unlimited access to the getAbstract Library ("Library") as described in the Subscriber Agreement by using the link provided to You by Your employer.

When You register for the Services, You will provide various personal information (see below).

Thereupon, we set up and activate access to the library for you. The Library consists of abstracts that shall remain available to You for the duration of the Subscriber Agreement.

Upon registration, You may choose to regularly receive a recommended abstract by email. The frequency of this service can be changed anytime in your personal account. The recommendations are generated based on the channels you follow and your reading history.

What personal information do we collect about You?

The information we collect about you relates to personal data which You choose to provide to us when subscribing to the Services. This entails: Your name, e-mail address, your interest profile and language.

When using the Services and the Website we will collect information on You and on Your use of the Services and the Website, and use it to form Your interest profile. This entails: IP addresses (including country of your internet access), visits to the Library and the Website, reading and download history from the Library.

Why do we process your Information and on what legal basis?

We process your Information for the following purposes:

  • First name, last name: personalized salutation on the web site, app and notifications service
  • Email: user authentication, access control, delivery of notifications (if configured by You)
  • Interest profile, usage history, language: personalization of reading recommendations on web site, app and notification service
  • Country: enforcing regional copyright restrictions

We do this on the legal basis of legitimate interest (user authentication, access control, enforcing regional copyright restrictions) and on the basis of Your consent.

How will we use the Information about You?

The Information is used to render the Services You subscribed to and to manage Your account. If You have created a user account and are logged in, we use the Information to personalize Your repeat visits to the Website and to make personal reading suggestions.

Based on such Information we will create anonymized company-wide reports and statistics. These reports and statistics may be reviewed by Your employer. Reports are shared in an anonymized format only.

We do not sell, share or otherwise distribute Your Information to third parties.

Where is Your information stored?

We are a Swiss company and all Your information is stored and processed on our own servers located in Switzerland.

We have implemented technical and organizational measures to protect the Information against intentional or accidental manipulation, unauthorized third-party access, loss, destruction or changes. We continually improve this protection as technology changes.

Your Rights

You have the right to request access to and/or a copy of the Information that we hold about You. If You would like a copy of some or all of Your Information, please email or write to us at the following address privacy@getabstract.com.

We want to make sure that the Information is accurate and up to date. You may ask us to correct or remove Information You think is inaccurate.

You may also ask us to cease processing your Information.

All data breaches shall be reported to privacy@getabstract.com. If a personal data breach occurs and that breach is likely to result in a risk to Your rights and freedom, then we shall ensure that the competent data protection authorities are informed without delay.
