About the Authors

The independent benchmarking firm Towards Maturity develops and delivers research and advice to help L&D professionals improve performance. Laura Overton is the founder and CEO of Towards Maturity where Genny Dixon is head of research and Gent Ahmetaj is senior research analyst.

Although learning and development (L&D) leaders expect higher rewards from their investments every year, organizations often fail to reap the full benefits of innovating in their L&D programs. Overall, the more than 700 L&D units Towards Maturity surveyed enhanced the efficiency of training delivery, but few organizations have sufficiently transformed to realize the advances that top learning companies demonstrate. Only a minority of organizations reported improvements in crucial measures of business performance, such as customer satisfaction (where the scale of improvement avaraged 19%), productivity (13%) and revenue (7%).
