About the Speaker

Educator and social entrepreneur Sal Khan founded the Khan Academy to make education free and accessible to all.



The conventional education model corrals students by age into classes and herds the scholars through new knowledge at the same pace. After two or three weeks of lectures and homework on a given topic, the class takes a test, which detects the gaps in each student’s knowledge. But instead of working to close those gaps, the class moves on en masse to the next more challenging topic. As their knowledge gaps accrue, many students lag behind, lose interest and feel incapable of learning that subject.
