Microblogging site Twitter is under scrutiny for enabling the spread of misinformation and Russian election-related ads in the run-up to the 2016 US presidential election. On September 28, 2017, Twitter’s head of global public policy Colin Crowell discussed Russian activity on its platform with members of the US Congress behind closed doors. After the meeting, a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee accused Twitter of displaying an “enormous lack of understanding” and questioned the company’s commitment to the investigation.
