Satisfied employees are more productive, take fewer sick days and stay in their jobs longer. But what drives satisfaction at work? To find out, the Happiness Research Institute and the trade union Krifa in Denmark teamed up with TNS Gallup to produce the “Job Satisfaction Index 2016.” Although the findings don’t constitute breaking news, the report succeeds at pinpointing the ingredients of the otherwise unexamined and vague feeling of “satisfaction” among employees. getAbstract recommends the report to HR professionals and senior executives, who may be surprised to learn that workplace happiness has little to do with employee perks and six-figure salaries.

The Happiness Research Institute is a Danish think tank that studies human happiness. Founded in 1899, Krifa is one of the largest trade unions in Denmark. TNS Gallup is a leading consultancy firm in Denmark.

 

Summary

A study of more than 2,500 employees in Denmark – a country where a record 94% of employees consider themselves satisfied with their jobs – has identified the ingredients of a happy work life.
