Review

“What is my purpose?” Oprah Winfrey believes a force that lives deep inside you can answer that question – if only you listen. To figure out what to do, consider who you should be and what means the most to you. Winfrey offers life lessons based on her career of talking with people, being resilient, seeking wisdom and listening. She punctuates her spiritual journey with quotes from famous guests. Her approach is somewhat New Age, but many readers will find it uplifting and, clearly, Winfrey’s philosophy has worked well for her. If you’re wondering about your own life path or seeking inspiration, Winfrey offers guidance with warmth and star power.

About the Author

Oprah Winfrey hosted The Oprah Winfrey Show for 25 years; it was the most popular TV talk show in history. An actress and film producer, she also founded the Oprah Winfrey Network and the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa. She is an influential global leader in media and philanthropy.

The universe has a dream for you. This knowledge is deep inside you.

Oprah Winfrey relates how she began her career as a news anchor at a TV station in Baltimore. Her bosses, she reports, thought she was “the wrong color, the wrong size and…showed too much emotion” for the show. They reassigned Winfrey to host a talk show, People Are Talking. She realized that she loved interviewing people. She felt “lit up from the inside” and recognized this work as her life’s purpose. Winfrey describes that show as a calling. But years later at the height of The Oprah Winfrey Show’s popularity, Winfrey felt there was more for her to do. So she created the cable TV–based Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).

Winfrey learned to trust her feelings and stay aware of what fuels her energy. She believes anything is possible. She takes to heart the biblical lesson that if you have a little faith, you can move mountains. Winfrey believes all people have “the seeds of knowing” within them. Ask yourself what you truly believe, because “you become what you believe.”
